RE: The DANCE PRESCRIPTION Program

  • Melbourne: 7 Ford Crescent, Thornbury (Niche Dance Studio)

Sydney: 70 O'Riordan Street, Alexandria (Village Nation)

Gold Coast: 5/10-11 Traders Way, Currumbin Waters (Signature Dance Studio)

Workshops: Studio hosted workshops are held all over Australia and the world - if you'd like to book a workshop for your studio please email drlisa@dance-prescription.com. Open studio workshops are held all over Australia and the world - for upcoming dates check HERE.

  • Dancers who successfully audition for the DANCE PRESCRIPTION program train together on alternate Sundays. The Preclinical Team (12 and under) train from roughly 9am - 11.30am and the Clinical Team train from 10am-1.30pm with slight variations state to state.

  • The DANCE PRESCRIPTION Program is an audition entry only program. Auditions are held in November/December for the following year. Audition dates for each state for the 2025 program are as follows:

Melbourne: 24th, 30th of November. 1st of December.

    Gold Coast: 14th, 15th December

    Sydney: 21st, 22nd December

Dancers can audition in any state for any program.

  • There are no set minimum technical entry requirements for the DANCE PRESCRIPTION program. Having said that, it is favourable if the dancer has their left and right leg splits and can do a neat double turn - although dancers have previously been selected without one side of their split for example and worked on this prior to the program commencing.

Dancers must have a home studio where they study jazz choreography and classical ballet. Participation in ballet examinations are encouraged. A strong classical ballet background is a necessary foundation for excellence in jazz.

  • The DANCE PRESCRIPTION program would be very boring if it only selected dancers who were already incredible at jazz technique. We look for basic jazz technique - pointed feet, posture, good alignment, foundations of flexibility, strength and coordination is all we ask for. Our aim is to find dedicated dancers with potential and help them achieve incredible feats, safely - so a smart, 'switched on' dancer is a must.

Mainly, we look for talented and dedicated dancers who have potential to be incredible. We look for vibrant, encouraging personalities and a sense of humour. We look for enthusiasm, drive, grit and determination. If you love dance and you love working with us, we'll love working with you.

You don't need a dance prepared for your audition, we'll teach you all the steps you need - we'll also be purposefully teaching you really hard things to see if you rise to the challenge or give up!

  • The cost for DANCE PRESCRIPTION varies, depending on which state and which stream your dancer is selected for; there is a Preclinical team for 12 and under who train a little less than the Clinical team (12 and over) and so costs vary to reflect this.

As a rough guide, a term with DANCE PRESCRIPTION compulsory group training comes with over 20 hours of class time, home training programs, access to train with any team in any state, plus group home practice challenges, access to limitless personalised feedback on home training and discounted DANCE PRESCRIPTION workshop tickets comes to $400-$500.

    Payment plans are available.

We also believe that no talented dancer should have opportunities closed to them based on financial means and offer both financial hardship scholarships, and merit scholarships after selection.
